Manipal Hosts ‘Concave Mirror on Indian Healthcare II’: Shaping New PerspectivesManipal, India November 25th 2024: The prestigious Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, in collaboration with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), the Prasanna School of Public Health, and the Manipal Institute of Virology, successfully organized the second edition of its landmark conference, “Concave Mirror on Indian Healthcare II.” This day-long event, held at TMA Pai Hall-III, showcased dynamic discussions and innovative approaches to pressing challenges in public health, global health, emergency medicine, and disaster management.

The conference witnessed the participation of distinguished experts in their respective fields. Dr. Muralidhar Varma, Head of Infectious Diseases at KMC, delivered the opening session on the syndromic approach to tropical sepsis, setting the stage for a day of insightful deliberations. Dr. Vijaya Arun Kumar, Research Director at Harper-Hutzel Hospital, Michigan, USA, presented a compelling session on the complexities of long COVID, while Dr. Chiranjay Mukhopadhyay from the Manipal Institute of Virology illuminated the intricacies of viral outbreak investigations.

Key sessions also included an exploration of impactful innovations during pandemics, presented by Dr. Rachana from the Department of Emergency Medicine, and an engaging discussion on disaster anticipation and hospital administration by Dr. Aishwarya T.R. The critical care perspective on outbreak management was expertly addressed by Dr. Sagar Madani. Dr. P. Arathi Rao from the Prasanna School of Public Health shared her insights on universal health coverage and global health strategies, underscoring the event’s focus on comprehensive healthcare solutions. Dr. Sanjay Kini led an engaging session on health statistics, providing valuable insights into the current landscape. Dr. Mukhyaprana Prabhu also presented on the continuity of medical education during pandemics, highlighting strategies to maintain training and education in challenging times.

The conference also featured an interactive disaster tabletop exercise led by Dr. Pranav Prakash, Ms. Arundathi Hebbar, and Mr. Avinash Bhat, with expert guidance from Dr. Manu Sudhi and Dr. Asish Kishore, enabling participants to strategize effective disaster response mechanisms.

The event concluded with a session titled “Michigan to Manipal Collaboration Express: Tracks Ahead,” emphasizing the potential of international partnerships in advancing healthcare systems. This closing session was led by Prof. Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences, MAHE, along with Prof. Dr. Anil K. Bhat, Associate Dean of KMC, Dr. Vijaya Arun Kumar, and Dr. Jayaraj Mymbilly Balakrishnan, HOD of Emergency Medicine, KMC.
