Gadre Gaspar Dias Open: Tejas,Rahul & Suraj Advance To Last-8 Stage
PANAJI: Tejas Shevde, Rahul Singh, and Suraj Bikkannavar are through to the quarter-finals of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2022 tennis championships being played at the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias courts-Miramar and at Panjim Gymkhana.
The annual tennis tournament by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club, is being organized under the aegis of the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA), with support from Gadre Group.
In the men’s singles event, four-time champion and last year’s finalist Tejas blanked out fellow Goan, Rajaram Kundaikar 6-0 to book a place in the last-8 stage. Rahul beat Mano Chhabra 6-1, Suraj Bikkannavar registered a 6-3 win against Ankit Batheja to step into the quarter-finals.
The ladies’ singles action saw a good contest between Nishica Gomes and Tanishka Deshpande. Nishica emerged 6-3 winners to march into the quarter-finals. In another match, Nicole da Silva proved too good for Rukun Kaul, as she romped into the quarters with a 6-0 victory.
Over in the men’s doubles, Rajaram Kundaikar and Santosh Gorawar beat Adarsh M/Jaiwin Ranjit combination 6-4 to make it to the last-8 stage.
In the mixed-doubles category, Aman Bundela and Wynona Godinho registered a dominant 6-0 win against Werner Fernandes /Nicole Da Silva to storm into the quarterfinals. Shivam Bapat and Kamakshi Shanbhag, however, had to slug it out deep into the tie-breaker for a 7-6(5) victory over Kafil Kadvekar /Ritika Dawalkar and a place into the last-8 stage.
