Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited’s flagship Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine is undergoing a radical green transformation:
- 32,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions eliminated annually, projected to rise to 50,000 tonnes with renewable energy integration
- 100 percent electric drilling through the world’s first Electric Compressor Excavator Mounted Drill
- Rapidly growing electric vehicle fleet, set to cross 100 electric vehicles by FY26
- Electrification of loading, hauling and grading, and use of LNG for ore transport
- MoUs signed with solar and wind energy partners, with supplies commencing from Q2 FY25
These efforts have positioned the Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine as a national model in low carbon, technology driven mining aligned with India’s Net Zero ambitions.

Revolutionizing Green Logistics: State’s First Slurry Pipeline
In a major stride toward green logistics, Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited has successfully laid and tested an 87-kilometre slurry pipeline, the first of its kind in Maharashtra and the fourth operational iron ore slurry pipeline in India. This innovation:
- Cuts carbon emissions by up to 61,000 tonnes annually (55 percent) under conventional power use
- Has potential to achieve 100 percent emission reduction with renewable energy
- Reduces freight costs by ₹500–600 per tonne, offering both ecological and economic benefits
From Waste to Wealth: India’s First BHQ Beneficiation Initiative
Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited is pioneering the beneficiation of Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ), historically treated as mining waste. With 700 million tonnes of reserves, the company’s 45 MTPA plant (first phase by FY27) is designed to:
- Recover 15 MTPA of high-grade iron ore concentrate
- Use energy efficient HPGR and vertical mills (30–40 percent more efficient than traditional systems)
- Reduce land degradation, tailings and pressure on high grade ores, contributing to circular economy goals
Mission Green: Over 3 Lakh Trees and Counting
The company’s Mission Green initiative, inspired by the vision of ‘green steel’, is delivering significant ecological benefits:
- Over 3 lakh trees planted across mining, residential and public spaces
- 377 hectares allocated for compensatory afforestation, now designated as reserved forest
- Fruit gardens, native saplings and distributed plantations foster biodiversity and community involvement
Water Positive Operations and Rejuvenated Ecosystems
Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited’s water stewardship includes:
- Rejuvenation of Hedri and Manger water bodies, increasing capacity by 1.45 lakh cubic metres
- 85 percent reuse of treated wastewater from on-site sewage treatment plants

Green Skill Development: Simulator Based Welding Training
Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited has introduced simulator-based welding training as part of its sustainability focused skilling programme:

- Over 40 trainees certified, with plans for expansion
Integrated Green Energy and Circular Economy Vision

- 100 MW renewable energy projects with Hinduja Renewables and Amplus (Petronas Group)
- Bamboo dust used as a biomass fuel alternative, reducing boiler emissions by 14 percent
- 100 percent reuse of DRI and washery byproducts for captive power generation
