MDI Gurgaon takes home category win at The Case Centre’s 31st Awards and Competitions
Big win for MDI Gurgaon! Jyotsna Bhatnagar, Professor in Human Resource Management, along with Ms. Shweta Jaiswal Thakur (Alumni FPM) bagged the Global Case Centre Awards and Competitions 2021 for their case on ‘Amazon as an Employer’.
The case has been awarded the ‘Best Case’ under the Human Resource Management/ Organisational Behaviour category at ‘The Case Centre’s 31st Awards and Competitions 2021’. This is the first win for both the authors as well as for MDI Gurgaon.
The case explores the unconventional office culture at the US retailer. It was conducted following an article in The New York Times that alleged Amazon was doing an experiment in how far it could push white-collar professionals to get them to achieve its ever-expanding ambitions. The case is extremely insightful as it allows corporates, scholars, and students to analyze Amazon’s culture. Moreover, the case is very interesting, illustrating a balanced approach including both bright and dark sides as well as allowing professionals to increase their knowledge on leadership in a highly successful firm. It further enables in-depth and critical discussions on sustainable entrepreneurial advantages.
“The background research for the case was daunting and enjoyable at the same time. We did many drafts, and our patience was tested while writing the teaching note. It is heartening to know the questions we raised resonate across the HR/ Organisational fraternity globally. Amazon is a globally popular brand and the case encapsulates a very sensitive issue of keeping professionals on edge for business, and projects questions of compassion versus business profitability. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to MDI for providing us with this unique opportunity to research and case writing” said the winners.
The Case Centre, a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, is dedicated to advancing the case method worldwide, sharing knowledge, wisdom, and experience to inspire and transform business education across the globe. Along with MDI Gurgaon, there are five other schools in five countries, who made their debut winning appearance at the Case Centre’s 31st Awards and Competitions 2021.
The 2021 results reveal a new generation of case method talent emerging across the globe with an astonishing, record-breaking 30 new laureates.
