New Delhi, Feb 13: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today released the performance data for January 2026, indicating the highest-ever January sales across Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers, reflecting strong double-digit growth over January 2025.
Production
The total production of Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, Two-Wheelers and Quadricycles in January 2026 stood at 29,27,394 units.
Domestic Sales Performance – January 2026
- Passenger Vehicles: 4,49,616 units (growth of 12.6% over January 2025)
- Three-Wheelers: 75,725 units (growth of 30.2%)
- Two-Wheelers: 19,25,603 units (growth of 26.2%)
Passenger Vehicles recorded sales of 4.50 lakh units, marking their highest-ever January performance. Three-Wheelers witnessed strong momentum with 0.76 lakh units sold, while Two-Wheelers reached 19.26 lakh units during the month.
Segment-wise Performance
- Passenger Vehicles: Increased from 3,99,386 units in January 2025 to 4,49,616 units in January 2026.
- Three-Wheelers:
- Passenger Carrier: 60,881 units (up 30.4%)
- Goods Carrier: 13,374 units (up 33.4%)
- E-Rickshaw: 925 units (down 7.9%)
- E-Cart: 545 units (up 18.5%)
- Two-Wheelers:
- Scooters: 7,50,580 units (up 36.9%)
- Motorcycles: 11,26,416 units (up 20.3%)
- Mopeds: 48,607 units (up 16.1%)
Commenting on the performance, Mr. Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said,
“Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers posted their highest ever Sales of January in 2026, with double digit growth, compared to January 2025. 4.50 Lakh units of Passenger Vehicles were sold in January 2026, with a growth of 12.6%, as compared to January 2025. Three-Wheelers witnessed a strong growth of 30.2% compared to January of previous year, with sales of 0.76 Lakh units, while Two-Wheelers grew by 26.2% in January 2026 as compared to January 2025, with sales of 19.26 Lakh units. The new year has begun on a positive note, extending the strong momentum seen in the previous quarter, supported by sustained demand following the GST rate reduction. The initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2026 to strengthen India’s manufacturing base, along with existing policy tailwinds, are expected to deliver long-term benefits for the sector and support growth in the medium term.
The January 2026 performance underscores the resilience of India’s automobile industry and signals sustained consumer demand across segments. With supportive fiscal measures and policy reforms aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, the sector is poised to maintain growth momentum in the coming months.
