HCG Cancer Centre Sets a Milestone with Karnataka’s First S7 CyberKnife for Parkinson’s Disease
Bengaluru, 06th February 2025: In a pioneering medical breakthrough, HCG Cancer Centre, Bangalore, has successfully treated a 75-year-old man suffering from Parkinson’s disease using the state-of-the-art CyberKnife S7 system. This non-invasive procedure, a first for the state of Karnataka, marks a significant milestone in the treatment of neurological disorders.

For over four years, the patient endured debilitating tremors in his head and left upper limb, which severely affected his ability to carry out daily activities. Despite ongoing medication, his quality of life was greatly compromised. Upon learning about the cutting-edge CyberKnife radiosurgery system available at HCG Cancer Centre, he opted for the treatment, hoping for a solution to his condition.

CyberKnife radiosurgery is a 15-minute outpatient procedure that requires no anesthesia or hospital admission, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional surgeries for treating Parkinson’s disease and other functional neurological disorders. Using advanced imaging technologies such as limited brain dopamine PET scans and 3T MRI sequences, the medical team precisely mapped the affected brain regions, allowing the CyberKnife S7 system to target and ablate these areas with remarkable accuracy. Within just two days after the procedure, the patient experienced complete cessation of his tremors, with no side effects, providing a transformative outcome and a new lease on life.

Dr. Lohith Reddy, Lead Radiation Oncologist Functional Radiosurgery, HCG Cancer Center Bangalore said “This non-invasive, highly effective approach offers hope for Parkinson’s patients and others suffering from functional neurological disorders. By combining the precision of CyberKnife technology with our multidisciplinary team’s expertise, we’re able to offer patients a treatment that minimizes risks, ensures faster recovery, and significantly improves their quality of life.”

This achievement marks the first use of CyberKnife S7 to treat Parkinson’s disease in Karnataka, underscoring HCG Cancer Centre’s commitment to leading the way in advanced medical technology.
