Bhubaneswar, June 8: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have been recognised as Model Campuses under the Vehicle-Free Campus Initiative of the FIT India Movement and have been felicitated with the prestigious FERN Award for promoting sustainable mobility and healthy living practices.
The recognition, conferred under the aegis of the FIT India Movement, acknowledges the institutions’ efforts to create environmentally responsible campuses by encouraging cycling, walking, and reduced dependence on motor vehicles. The initiative aims to foster healthier lifestyles while contributing to cleaner and greener educational environments.
The award highlights KIIT and KISS’s commitment to integrating fitness, environmental sustainability, and responsible mobility into campus life. Through various awareness programmes and infrastructure support, the institutions have actively promoted eco-friendly transportation among students, faculty members, and staff.
Expressing his happiness over the achievement, KIIT and KISS Founder Achyuta Samanta said that cycling is more than just a mode of transport, describing it as a symbol of health, discipline, and harmony with nature. He noted that the institutions have consistently encouraged students and employees to adopt sustainable and healthy practices in their daily lives.
He also expressed gratitude to the FIT India Movement, the Sports Authority of India, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for recognising the efforts of KIIT and KISS in promoting fitness and environmental consciousness.
The recognition further strengthens the reputation of KIIT and KISS as institutions that combine academic excellence with social responsibility, sustainability, and student well-being.
