Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): Schools in several parts of Odisha may remain closed for another one to two days if the ongoing spell of heavy rain continues, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said on Thursday.
The state has been witnessing persistent rainfall under the influence of a deep depression, prompting district administrations in several areas to suspend classes as a precautionary measure.
Decision To Depend On Weather
According to the minister, Collectors in several districts have already ordered the closure of schools for two days in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Any extension of the closure will be decided by the respective district administrations based on the local weather and ground situation, Gond said.
The southern districts of Odisha have been particularly affected by the weather system, with heavy rainfall reported from several areas.
Academic Calendar Affected
The repeated closure of educational institutions due to adverse weather has affected the academic calendar and disrupted regular classroom activities, the minister said.
However, the government is considering measures to make up for the loss of instructional days. Extra classes may be organised wherever necessary to ensure that students do not face a significant academic setback.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the weather situation, and further decisions on school operations are expected to be taken based on rainfall conditions and local assessments.
