Bihar Gets Approval for Over 11 Lakh New Homes Under PM Awas Yojana

Patna, Aug 20: More than 11.18 lakh pucca houses have been approved for poor families in Bihar under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin for 2026-27. The move is expected to give fresh support to families still living without permanent homes.

The approval covers 11,18,937 houses. The announcement came during a housing programme in Bihar where around 2.35 lakh completed houses were also handed over to beneficiaries.

For many rural families, a permanent house means greater safety and stability. A pucca home can provide better protection from heavy rain, extreme weather and other challenges while giving families a more secure place to live.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary welcomed the fresh housing allocation and highlighted the expansion of rural housing in the state. He said Bihar has seen around 50 lakh pucca houses provided since 2014 under the government’s housing initiatives.

The housing programme is also expected to support local economic activity. Construction creates demand for cement, bricks, steel, transport and skilled and unskilled labour, allowing government spending to benefit several sections of the rural economy.

The next focus will be on identifying eligible beneficiaries and completing the approved houses efficiently. Effective implementation will be important to ensure that the new allocation reaches families who need housing support.

For the beneficiaries, the announcement represents more than a government scheme. A permanent home can bring greater security, dignity and a stronger foundation for the future.
