‘She is Gold’ illuminates SFA Championships with a day dedicated to encourage female athletes

New Delhi, January 31st, 2024: The third day of the SFA Championships in Delhi, was dedicated to empower and encourage female athletes, as part of the “She is Gold” initiative. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witnessed more than 750 female athletes competing across sports, including Athletics, Basketball, Football (U10 & U12), Kho Kho, Tennis, and Volleyball, all in one day.

In Athletics, U-8 to U-18 girls and boys engaged in spirited competition across various disciplines, including long jumps and races from 50m to 2000m. U-14 to U-18 Basketball players competed in intense quarter-finals and finals. Meanwhile, Football grounds saw thrilling matches of U-12 to U-18 boys and girls, where each team displayed determination and flair on the field. Kho-Kho saw gripping finals in the U-18 boys and girls matches, with participant’s brilliance to dodge. On the tennis courts, the U-10 to U-18 girls showcased swift techniques and precision with every serve, captivating the audience with their skills.

On the volleyball court, exciting finals of U-14 to U-18 boys and girls, had the spectators on the edge of their seats. Volleyball matches for the U-18 Girls saw  Sarvodaya Vidyalaya pick the gold, followed by Gurukul the School on second position and Indirapuram Public School on third position.

Reflecting on her remarkable journey at the SFA Championships, Shrishti, a U-16 Basketball player from Taksh-Shila Model School in Faridabad, expressed, “Over the past three years of playing sports, I’ve encountered incredible moments. Our team competed in the U-14 National Championships in Himachal, secured the district position in the U-14 girls category, and clinched the top spot at Khelo Mahotsav in Faridabad. Supported wholeheartedly by my fitness enthusiast parents, their constant motivation pushes me to strive for excellence. Participating in the SFA Championships has been an enriching experience, providing us with valuable exposure.”

At the Noida Educational Academy, U-17 finals of Kabaddi matches for girls and boys were concluded.

Day 4 promises more excitement with the kick-off of Skating along with the much-anticipated finals of Kho Kho. SFA Championships is poised to make sports accessible for school athletes across the country, thereby empowering today’s talent to become the Champions of tomorrow. The journey to represent the country at the Olympics, is what SFA Championships is enabling for emerging athletes.
