Cuttack, Sept. 24 (UDN): World Maritime Day 2026 was observed at the Odisha State Maritime Museum in Cuttack on Thursday, highlighting the state’s centuries-old maritime traditions, seafaring culture and historic links with overseas trade.
Officials and staff of the Water Resources Department and the Maritime Museum took part in the programme, which focused on Odisha’s rich maritime legacy and its contribution to the region’s cultural and commercial history.
Sand Art Highlights Maritime Heritage
A special sand-art display based on the theme of maritime heritage was showcased during the observance, offering a visual representation of Odisha’s longstanding relationship with the sea.
A poster exhibition was also organised, featuring aspects of ancient maritime trade, seafaring practices, overseas commercial links and traditional navigation methods associated with Odisha.
Historical Artefacts Put on Display
Selected artefacts and antiquities from the Odisha State Museum were displayed as part of the programme. The exhibits highlighted different facets of the state’s cultural history and maritime heritage.
The event sought to create greater awareness of Odisha’s historical maritime connections and preserve the legacy of its seafaring traditions for future generations.
The observance at the State Maritime Museum also provided an opportunity for officials and visitors to reflect on the role of maritime activities in shaping Odisha’s historical, cultural and economic links with regions beyond its shores.
