NEW DELHI, Sep 10: Apple’s iPhone 17 series has emerged as a major commercial success, generating more than $170 billion in global wholesale revenue during its first year, according to Counterpoint Research.
The performance marks the highest first-year wholesale revenue recorded for an iPhone lineup, with the iPhone 17 series generating 11 per cent more revenue than the iPhone 16 series during the comparable period. Strong demand across the range and a healthy smartphone replacement cycle helped drive the growth.
The standard iPhone 17 was one of the biggest contributors to the performance. Its revenue was around 1.3 times that of its predecessor, while the model emerged as the world’s best-selling smartphone by unit sales in the first half of 2026. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max also ranked among the leading smartphones globally.
The strong performance shows that Apple’s growth is not being driven only by its most expensive Pro models. By bringing more advanced features to the standard iPhone, Apple has been able to attract a wider group of consumers looking for premium technology.
China emerged as the biggest regional growth driver, with wholesale revenue for the iPhone 17 series rising 35 per cent compared with the previous generation. China accounted for nearly 24 per cent of the series’ global revenue. Japan, the Middle East and Africa, and other Asia-Pacific markets also recorded healthy growth.
The iPhone 17 series also benefited from changes in the wider smartphone market. Rising memory and component costs pushed several Android manufacturers to increase prices, while Apple’s relatively stable pricing helped narrow the gap with competing premium smartphones. Installment plans and promotional offers in key markets also supported demand.
From a business perspective, the performance highlights the strength of Apple’s premium smartphone strategy. Strong demand for advanced processors, cameras and other high-end features is helping the company maintain growth even as the broader smartphone market faces pressure.
The record also comes as Apple expands its technology portfolio with newer products, including its first foldable iPhone. The combination of premium devices, new form factors and advanced technology could provide further opportunities for growth in the global smartphone market.
The iPhone 17 performance therefore represents more than strong handset sales. It highlights continued consumer willingness to spend on advanced mobile technology and Apple’s ability to turn product innovation into significant business growth.
