The event brought together breast cancer warriors to celebrate their journeys and encourage greater awareness of a disease that continues to pose a significant public health challenge in India.

According to estimates from the National Cancer Registry Programme, presented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the Rajya Sabha in February 2026, India was projected to record 2,40,381 breast cancer cases among women in 2025, including 21,843 cases in Maharashtra. The estimated number of breast cancer-related deaths among women in the country stood at 1,03,363 in 2025. These figures underline the importance of breast cancer awareness, timely medical consultation and access to appropriate treatment.

Dr Meghal Sanghavi, Consultant Oncosurgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, said,

“Breast cancer awareness is not just about knowing that the disease exists; it is also about recognising changes in the body and seeking medical advice without delay. A lump in the breast, changes in its size or shape, skin dimpling, nipple changes or unusual discharge should not be ignored. It is also important to understand that breast cancer can occur even in women with no family history of the disease. Early evaluation can help identify the condition and enable timely treatment. We encourage women to be attentive to their breast health, overcome hesitation in discussing their concerns and follow screening recommendations appropriate to their age and individual risk.”

Dr. Virendra Chauhan, Regional Business Head – India, Group Head International Business, Wockhardt Hospitals, said,

“Every breast cancer journey is unique, and behind every diagnosis is a person navigating uncertainty, difficult decisions and the emotional challenges that come with treatment. Through this initiative, we wanted to recognise the courage of these 55 women and celebrate their journeys beyond the hospital setting. While medical treatment plays a crucial role, emotional support, encouragement from loved ones and a compassionate care environment are equally important in helping patients navigate this phase. We hope their stories inspire others to seek timely medical advice, speak openly about breast cancer and understand that no one should have to face the journey alone.”

Through this initiative, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, reiterated its commitment to breast cancer awareness and patient-centric care. The event highlighted the importance of timely medical consultation, appropriate screening and emotional support for patients and their families. It also celebrated the courage and resilience of the 55 women, reinforcing the message that awareness, timely action and compassionate care can make a meaningful difference in the breast cancer journey.
