Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): A 26-year-old woman died after allegedly being attacked by her husband with a frying pan at Nayapalli Gada Sahi in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Banasmita Sai. Her husband, Sarbeswar Pradhan (28), has been detained by Nayapalli police for questioning in connection with the incident.
According to police, the alleged assault took place at the couple’s residence at around 7 pm. Following the incident, neighbours reportedly rushed to the house after hearing screams and found Banasmita critically injured. She was subsequently found dead.
Neighbours detained Sarbeswar and informed the police. On receiving the information, a team from Nayapalli Police Station, along with forensic personnel, reached the spot and collected evidence. Police also seized the frying pan allegedly used in the assault.
Police Begin Investigation
Zone-5 ACP Biswaranjan Senapati said the woman died after sustaining injuries to her head during the alleged attack. He added that Sarbeswar was being questioned and that the exact circumstances and motive would be established during the investigation.
Police are examining the circumstances leading up to the incident and questioning family members and other witnesses.
According to the accused’s father, Sasikant Pradhan, the family originally hails from Belapala village under Rajnagar police limits in Kendrapada district and has been residing in Nayapalli Gada Sahi for several years. He said both he and his elder son work as contractors.
The couple had reportedly married around one-and-a-half years ago after being in a relationship and have a four-month-old son.
Police said the investigation is underway and that further details will emerge after examination of the forensic evidence and statements of witnesses.
