Berhampur, Sept. 24 (UDN): Heavy rainfall triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal caused severe waterlogging in Kasinagar near First Gate in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday, with rainwater reportedly entering several houses and prompting residents to stage a road blockade.
Water Enters Houses
The downpour overwhelmed the local drainage system, leaving large quantities of rainwater accumulated in the locality. Residents said the rising water entered homes, creating difficulties for families in the affected area.
Despite efforts to drain the accumulated water, the situation reportedly persisted, prompting locals to take to the road and demand immediate measures to clear the water.
Buses Stopped During Protest
The protesters gathered near the Duduma Colony bus stand and blocked the road, stopping buses and disrupting vehicular movement in the area.
The blockade continued for some time before municipal employees reached the spot and held discussions with the residents. Officials sought to pacify the protesters and assured them that the waterlogging issue would be addressed.
Following the intervention, the residents withdrew the blockade, allowing traffic movement to resume.
The incident comes amid widespread rainfall in several parts of Odisha under the influence of the deep depression, with waterlogging and rain-related disruptions reported from multiple locations.
